In Psalms chapter seventy-six Asaph said to Jehovah God, “You, even you, are to be feared: and who may stand in your sight when once you are angry? You did cause judgment to be heard from heaven; the earth feared, and was still, when God arose to judgment, to save all the meek of the earth. Selah.”, and in chapter seventy-six and verse ten of Psalms Asaph said, “surely the wrath of man shall praise you” where we read,
Surely the wrath of man shall praise you: the remainder of wrath shall you restrain.
The verse begins, “Surely the wrath of man shall praise you:” Asaph began with the words, “Surely the wrath of man” or “because, since, indeed and certainly the heat, rage, hot displeasure and indignation belonging to people both male and female” “shall praise you” which means “will give thanks, laud, revered and worship to you, Jehovah God”. Asaph said certainly the rage and indignation of people would worship and give thanks to Jehovah God.
The verse goes on to say, “the remainder of wrath shall you restrain.” Asaph continued with the words, “the remainder of wrath” or “the rest, residue, remnant and what is left pertaining to heat, rage, hot displeasure and indignation” “shall you restrain” which means “will you, Jehovah God, put on, gird and appoint”. Asaph said Jehovah God girds Himself with what is left of the rage and indignation of mankind.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Asaph how Jehovah God rules and reigns over the “rage and indignation” of people. He turns their anger into “praise”, and whatever is left over, He wears like a garment. In other words, man's wrath does not affect Him. God knows people, and He loves them. Because all people have sinned and are separated from a relationship with God, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die for their sins. When we believe and trust in Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and employ that which angers people to become “praise and worship” to Him.
Next time Asaph says, “vow, and pay unto the LORD your God”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
