In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of the province that went up out of the captivity” which included those who came with “Zerubabbel” among whom were “the Nethinims: the children of Ziha, Hasupha, Tabbaoth, Keros, Siaha, Padon, Lebanah, Hagabah and the Akkub, Hagab, Shalmai, Hanan, Giddel, Gahar, Reaiah, Rezin, Nekoda, Gazzam, Uzza, Paseah, Besai, Asnah, Mehunim, Nephusim, Bakbuk, Hakupha and Harhur ...”, and in chapter two and verse fifty-two of Ezra, Ezra shared about, “the children of Bazluth, Mehida and Harsha” where we read,
The children of Bazluth, the children of Mehida, the children of Harsha,
The verse reads, “The children of Bazluth, the children of Mehida, ...” Ezra began with the words, “the children” which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Bazluth” which means “belonging to Bazluth whose name means asking and was a head of a family of exiles returning with Zerubbabel”, “the children” or “the offspring and progeny” “of Mehida”which means “belonging to Mehida whose name means famous or noble and was the head of a family of exiles returning with Zerubbabel”. Ezra included the offspring of “Bazluth and Mehida” in the group of “Nethinims” who returned to Jerusalem.
The verse continues, “... the children of Harsha, ...” Ezra added the words, “the children” or “the offspring and progeny” “of Harsha” which means “belonging to Harsha whose name means mute and was the head of a family of exiles returning with Zerubbabel”. Ezra accounted for the offspring of “Harsha” who went back to Jerusalem under the commission of Jehovah God through Cyrus the king of Persia.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Ezra about another three families who returned to Jerusalem with the “Nethinims” to serve the Levites and in the temple. The offspring of “Bazluth, Mehida and Harsha” heeded the commission of Almighty God through Cyrus to go back to their homeland in Jerusalem. God was to employ them in the service of His temple when it was rebuilt, and they would be worshiping Him in doing so. God wants everyone to be in a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a desire to serve Him in whatever capacity He provides both now and throughout eternity.
Next time Ezra shares about, “the children of Barkos, Sisera and Thamah”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
