In the book of Ezra, Ezra said, “Now in the second year of their coming unto the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, began Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the remnant of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all they that were come out of the captivity unto Jerusalem; and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to set forward the work of the house of the LORD”, and in chapter three and verse nine of Ezra, Ezra said, “then stood Jeshua” where we read,
Then stood Jeshua with his sons and his brethren, Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, together, to set forward the workmen in the house of God: the sons of Henadad, with their sons and their brethren the Levites.
The verse reads, “Then stood Jeshua with his sons and his brethren, Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, together, to set forward the workmen in the house of God:” Ezra began with the words, “then stood Jeshua” which means “at that time arose Jeshua whose name means he is saved and was the head of a Levitical house which returned from captivity in Babylon” “with his sons” which means “alongside and accompanied by his, Jeshua's, male offspring and progeny” “and his brethren” or “and his, Jeshua's, companions, fellows and kinship”, “Kadmiel” whose name means “God is the ancient one and was a Levite, descendant of Hodaviah and head of a family of returning exiles; He also oversaw the work on the temple and was one of the leaders of the people who led the people in the public confession” “and his sons” or “and his, Kadmiel's, male offspring and progeny”, “the sons of Judah” which means “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Judah whose name means praised and was an overseer of Jerusalem in the time of Nehemiah”, “together” or “gathered and assembled”, “to set forward the workmen” which means “to perpetuate and act as overseers, superintendents, directors and chief toward the workmanship, service and public business” “in the house of God” or “within the dwelling place, habitation and abode belonging to the Supreme Deity”. Ezra shared how “Jeshua, Kadmiel and their male offspring as well as the offspring of Judah” were commissioned to oversee the workmanship and service within the dwelling place of Jehovah God who is the Supreme Deity.
The verse continues, “the sons of Henadad, with their sons and their brethren the Levites.” Ezra added the words, “the sons of Henadad” or “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Henadad whose name means favor of Hadad and was the head of a family of Levites who took part in the rebuilding of the temple”, “with their sons” which means “alongside and accompanied by their, Henadad's, male offspring and progeny” “and their brethren” or “and their, Henadad's, relatives, kinship and brothers” “the Levites” which means “the descendants of Levi whose name means joined to and were the tribe specially set aside by God for His service”. Ezra shared how the offspring of “Henadad” as well as their male offspring and kinship who were the “Levites” that would oversee and carry out the reconstruction of the temple of Jehovah God.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Ezra how “Jeshua, Kadmiel, Judah and their male offspring” gathered with one another to perpetuate and oversee the service and maintenance of the dwelling place of Jehovah God. This team of people were necessary to carry out the building of the temple as well as the sacrifices and offerings that were to be given in worship to Jehovah God. God wants everyone to be a part of His church and in a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and use us in His Kingdom to build and maintain His church throughout the world. .
