In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of the province that went up out of the captivity” which included those who came with “Zerubabbel” among whom were “the Nethinims: the children of Ziha, Hasupha, Tabbaoth, Keros, Siaha, Padon, Lebanah, Hagabah, Akkub, Hagab, Shalmai , Hanan, Giddel, Gahar, Reaiah, Rezin, Nekoda and Gazzam ...”,and in chapter two and verse forty nine of Ezra, Ezra shared about, “the children of Uzza, Paseah and Besai” where we read,
The children of Uzza, the children of Paseah, the children of Besai,
The verse reads, “The children Uzza, the children of Paseah, ...” Ezra began with the words, “the children” which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Uzza” which means “belonging to Uzza whose name means strength and was an ancestor of a family of temple slaves who returned from exile with Zerubbabel”, “the children” or “the offspring and progeny” “of Paseah” which means “belonging to Paseah whose name means limper and was an ancestor of a family of temple slaves who returned from exile with Zerubbabel”. Ezra listed the offspring of “Uzza and Paseah” who were among the “Nethinims” who went back to Jerusalem.
The verse goes on to say, “... the children of Besai, ...” Ezra continued with the words, “the children” or “the offspring and progeny” “of Besai” which means “belonging to Besai whose name means my treading and was a temple slave (or group of slaves) who returned with Zerubbabel”. Ezra included “Besai” who was one of the “Nethinims” who returned to Jerusalem at the commission of Jehovah God through Cyrus the king of Persia.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Ezra about more families who belonged to the “Nethinims”or servants that traveled back to Jerusalem at the commission of Jehovah God. God's plan for the offspring of “Uzza, Paseah and Besai” was to serve in His temple, and He has a plan for us as well. We have a sin problem, (See Romans 3:10, 23, 26), and God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins so when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and equip us to work and serve in His Kingdom according to His perfect will and plan for our lives.
Next time Ezra shares about, “the children of Asnah, Mehunim and Nephusim”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
