In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of the province that went up out of the captivity” which included those who came with “Zerubabbel” among whom were “Zattu, Zaccai, Bebai, Azgad, Adonikam, Adin, Ater of Hezekiah, Bezai, Jorah and Hashum”,and in chapter two and verse twenty of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of Gibbar”where we read,
The children of Gibbar, ninety and five.
The verse reads, “The children of Gibbar ...” Ezra began with the words, “the children” which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Gibbar” or “belonging to Gibbar whose name means the valiant and was the head of a family of returning exiles under Zerubbabel”. Ezra accounted for the offspring of “Gibbar” who went back to Jerusalem.
The verse continues, “... ninety and five.” Ezra added the words, “ninety and five” or “ninety five offspring of Gibbar” who returned to the home region in Jerusalem. Ezra said there were “ninety five” people who were the progeny of“Gibbar” who obeyed the commission of Jehovah God through Cyrus the king of Persia to go back to their homeland.
When we meditate upon Ezra's words in this verse, we discover there were ninety five offspring of “Gibbar” who returned to their homeland in Jerusalem. One by one the families were going back to their home, and this is what Jehovah God desired. God wants to have a personal relationship with all of us, and He provided access to Himself through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value of obeying Him when He leads us to move or to fulfill His purpose and will in the world.
Next time Ezra shares about, “the children of Bethlehem”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
