In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of the province that went up out of the captivity” which included those who came with “Zerubabbel, Parosh, Shephatiah and Arah, Pahathmoab, of the children of Jeshua and Joab as well as the children of Elam, Zattu, Zaccai, Bebai, Azgad and Adonikam”,and in chapter two and verse fourteen of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of Bigvai” where we read,
The children of Bigvai, two thousand fifty and six.
The verse reads, “The children of Bigvai ...” Ezra began with the words, “the children” which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Bigvai” which means “belonging to Bigvai whose name means in my bodies and was an exile who returned under Zerubbabel and was perhaps the head of a family”. Ezra mentioned the offspring of “Bigvai” who also returned to Jerusalem.
The verse continues, “... two thousand fifty and six.” Ezra added the words, “ two thousand fifty and six” or “two thousand and fifty six people who were the descendants of Bigvai”. Ezra shared how there were two thousand and fifty six people within the family of “Bigvai” who went back to their homeland.
When we meditate upon Ezra's words in this verse, we see how he included the offspring of “Bigvai” in his list of people who went back to Jerusalem under the commission of Jehovah God through Cyrus the king of Persia. God was bringing His people back to the land He gave them, and when they yielded to Him, they made their way under His direction and guidance. God desires to do the same for all people today. He gave His Only Begotten Son Jesus to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and lead us by His Holy Spirit to the place and vocation He desires for us. Let all who read these words yield to Him.
Next time Ezra shares about, “the children of Adin”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
