In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of the province that went up out of the captivity” which included those who came with “Zerubabbel” among whom were “the men of Michmas, Bethel and Ai, and the children of Nebo, Magbish, the other Elam and Harim”,and in chapter two and verse thirty-three of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of Lod, Hadid and Ono” where we read,
The children of Lod, Hadid, and Ono, seven hundred twenty and five.
The verse reads, “The children of Lod, Hadid, and Ono, ...” Ezra began with the words, “the children” which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Lod” or “belonging to Lod whose name means travail and was a city approx eleven miles (17 km) southeast of Joppa in the plain of Sharon in the territory of Benjamin”, “Hadid” whose name means “sharp and was a town in Benjamin”, “and Ono” which means “and Ono whose name means vigorous and was a city in Benjamin”. Ezra shared about the offspring belonging to the offspring of “Lod, Hadid and Ono” who returned to Jerusalem after being exiled in Babylon for seventy years.
The verse continues, “... seven hundred twenty and five.” Ezra added the words, “seven hundred twenty and five” or “seven hundred and twenty five offspring of Lod, Hadid and Ono went back to their homeland in Judah”. Ezra accounted for seven hundred and twenty five offspring of “Lod, Hadid and Ono” who went back to their homeland.
When we think through Ezra's words in this verse, we discover another family who returned to Jerusalem a the commission of Jehovah God through Cyrus the king of Persia. One by one these families went back home, and regardless of the number, “Lod, Hadid and Ono's” families had seven hundred and twenty five, they took whatever means were necessary to go back. God wants us to know we are all invited to receive His forgiveness of sins and eternal life with Him through His Son Jesus who came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield to Him, we obey His way to be saved and to live in His homeland called Heaven forever.
Next time Ezra shares about, “the children of Jericho”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
