The Children of Lebanah, Gagabah and Akkub - Ezra 2:45

In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of the province that went up out of the captivity” which included those who came with “Zerubabbel” among whom were “the Nethinims: the children of Ziha, the children of Hasupha, the children of Tabbaoth, the children of Keros, the children of Siaha, the children of Padon, ...”,and in chapter two and verse forty five of Ezra, Ezra shared about, “the children of Lebanah, Hagabah and Akkub” where we read,

The children of Lebanah, the children of Hagabah, the children of Akkub,

The verse reads, The children of Lebanah, the children of Hagabah, ... Ezra began with the words, “the children” which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Lebanah” which means “belonging to Lebanah whose name means moon-white and was the head of a family of exiles who returned with Zerubbabel”, “the children” or “the offspring and progeny” “of Hagabah” which means “belonging to Hagabah or Hagaba whose name means locust and was the head of a family of exiles who returned with Zerubbabel”. Ezra shared how the offspring of “Lebanah and Hagabah” who were among the “Nethinims” returned to Jerusalem after being exiled in Babylon for seventy years.

The verse continues, ... the children of Akkub, ... Ezra added the words, the children” or “the offspring and progeny” “of Akkub” which means “belonging to Akkub whose name means insidious and was the head of a family of temple slaves returning from exile”. Ezra accounted for the family of “Akkub” who went back to Jerusalem under the commission of Jehovah God through Cyrus the king of Persia.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Ezra about more of the families who were part of the “Nethinims” or servants in the temple who went back to Jerusalem. The offspring of “Hagabah, Lebanah and Akkub”were obedient to the directive from God, and they would care for the temple when it was rebuilt. God loves the people of Israel, and He loves us. His desire is to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and employ us in His Kingdom in whatever area He deems best for us and Him.

Next time Ezra shares about, “the children of Hagab, Shalmai and Hanan”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
