In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of the province that went up out of the captivity” which included those who came with “Zerubabbel” among whom were “the men of Netophah and Anathoth and Azmaveth” and “the children of Kirjatharim, Chephirah, Beeroth, Ramah and Gaba”,and in chapter two and verse twenty-seven of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the men of Michmas” where we read,
The men of Michmas, an hundred twenty and two.
The verse reads, “The men of Michmas, ...” Ezra began with the words, “the men” which means “the male human beings” “of Michmas” or “belonging to Michmas whose name means hidden and was a city in Benjamin lying near Raman and approximately ten miles (16 kilometers) north of Jerusalem and probably modern Mukhmas”. Ezra accounted for the male human beings who were descendants of “Michmas” who returned to Jerusalem.
The verse continues, “... an hundred twenty and two.” Ezra added the words, “an hundred twenty and two” or “one hundred and twenty two men who were descendants of Michmas who returned to Jerusalem”. Ezra said there were one hundred and twenty two males who were from the family of “Michmas” who returned to their homeland.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see through Ezra how there were more men who returned to Jerusalem with Zerubabbel. The men who were descendants of “Michmas” heard and obeyed the call from Jehovah God through Cyrus the king of Persia to go back to their home in Jerusalem. God is calling people today. He knows we have sin in our lives so He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for every person, and when we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a desire to hear Him and to obey whatever He tell us to do.
Next time Ezra shares about, “the men of Bethel and Ai”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
