The Children of Bakbuk, Hakupha and Harhur - Ezra 2:51

In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of the province that went up out of the captivity” which included those who came with “Zerubabbel” among whom were “the Nethinims: the children of Ziha, Hasupha, Tabbaoth, Keros, Siaha, Padon, Lebanah, Hagabah, Akkub, Hagab, Shalmai, Hanan, Giddel, Gahar, Reaiah, Rezin, Nekoda, Gazzam, Uzza, Paseah, Besai, Asnah, Mehunim and Nephusim ...”,and in chapter two and verse fifty-one of Ezra, Ezra shared about, “the children of Bakbuk, Hakupha and Harhur” where we read,

The children of Bakbuk, the children of Hakupha, the children of Harhur,

The verse reads, The children of Bakbuk, the children of Hakupha, ... Ezra began with the words, “the children” which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Bakbuk” which means “belonging to Bakbuk whose name means bottle and was a head of a family of temple-slaves returning from exile with Zerubbabel”, “the children” or “the offspring and progeny” “of Hakupha” which means “belonging to Hakupha whose name means bent and was the head of a family of exiles returning with Zerubbabel”. Ezra shared how the offspring of “Babuk and Hakupha” were also among the “Nethinims”who went back to Jerusalem.

The verse goes on to say, ... the children of Harhur, ... Ezra continued with the words, the children” or “the offspring and progeny” “of Harhur” which means “belonging to Harhur whose name means inflammation and was the head of a family returning from exile with Zerubbabel”. Ezra included the progeny belonging to “Harhur” who were with the “Nethinims” who returned to Jerusalem after being exiled in Babylon for seventy years.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Ezra about three more of the families who returned to Jerusalem with the “Nethinims” or servants of the Levites and of the temple. God desires many laborers to be in His fields, (See Luke 10:2) and He invites everyone to believe and trust in His Son Jesus who was sent into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and equip us by His Holy Spirit to be “servants” in His Kingdom according to His purpose and will. (See Mark 10:44)

Next time Ezra shares about, “the children of Bazluth, Mehida and Harsha”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
