In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of the province that went up out of the captivity” which included those who came with “Zerubabbel” among whom were “Zattu, Zaccai, Bebai, Azgad, Adonikam, Adin, Ater of Hezekiah and Bezai”,and in chapter two and verse eighteen of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of Jorah” where we read,
The children of Jorah, an hundred and twelve.
The verse reads, “The children of Jorah ...” Ezra began with the words, “the children” which means “the prodigy and offspring” “of Jorah” or “belonging to Jorah whose name means he instructs and was the head or ancestor of a family who returned from Babylon”. Ezra shared about the offspring of “Jorah” who went back to Jerusalem with Zerubabbel.
The verse continues, “... an hundred and twelve.” Ezra added the words, “an hundred and twelve” or “one hundred and twelve family members belonging to their ancestor Jorah returned to Jerusalem”. Ezra shared how one hundred and twelve offspring of “Jorah” went back to their homeland.
When we think through Ezra's words in this verse, we learn about another family who returned to Jerusalem at the commission of Cyrus the king of Persia. “Jorah's” family had one hundred and twelve offspring who went back to Jerusalem, and ultimately they obeyed Jehovah God's desire for their lives. God wants us to put our faith and trust in His Son Jesus who was crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit so we may be obedient to His will and purpose for our lives as we are guided into all truth. (See John 16:13)
Next time Ezra shares about, “the children of Hashum”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
