In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of the province that went up out of the captivity” which included those who came with “Zerubabbel”, and “the whole congregation together was forty and two thousand three hundred and threescore””,and in chapter two and verse sixty-five of Ezra, Ezra shared about, “their servants, maids and singing men and women” where we read,
Beside their servants and their maids, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty and seven: and there were among them two hundred singing men and singing women.
The verse reads, “Beside their servants and their maids, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty and seven:” Ezra began with the words, “beside their servants” which means “apart from their, the children of Israel who went back to Jerusalem's, bondmen, slaves or men of servile condition” “and their maids” which means “and their, the children of Israel who went back to Jerusalem's, female handmaids, concubines or bondwomen”, “of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty and seven” or “in which there existed seventy three hundred and thirty seven”. Ezra shared how there were seventy three hundred and thirty seven male and female bondmen and handmaidens who also went back to Jerusalem with the people of Israel.
The verse continues, “and there were among them two hundred singing men and singing women.” Ezra added the words, “and there were among them” or “and there existed in the midst and middle of the bondmen and women” “two hundred singing men” which means “two hundred male song singing human beings” “and singing women” or “and female human beings who were songstresses”. Ezra shared how there was a choir of men and women who were “singers” who returned to Jerusalem with the people of Israel.
When we consider Ezra's words in this verse, we discover how there was a choir of men and women who accompanied the people of Israel as they returned to Jerusalem according to Jehovah God's commission through Cyrus the king of Persia. God was assembling builders, priests and singers who would reestablish the sacred worship, offerings and sacrifices that were to be given unto Him. God loves people, and He loves the church. He calls everyone everywhere to be a part of His worship community, and because He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die for the sins of all mankind, everyone is invited. When we receive Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and employ us in His sacred worship in various ways which may include singing and bringing offerings of sacrifice to Him throughout eternity.
Next time Ezra shares about, “their horses and mules”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
