In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of the province that went up out of the captivity” which included those who came with “Zerubabbel” among whom were “Zattu, Zaccai, Bebai, Azgad, Adonikam, Adin, Ater of Hezekiah, Bezai, Jorah, Hashum, Gibbar, Bethlehem and the men of Netophah”,and in chapter two and verse twenty-three of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the men of Anathoth” where we read,
The men of Anathoth, an hundred twenty and eight.
The verse reads, “The men of Anathoth ...” Ezra began with the words, “the men” which means “the male human beings” “of Anathoth” or “belonging to Anathoth whose name means answers to prayer and was one of the heads of the people who signed the covenant with Nehemiah”. Ezra shared about the male human beings who were part of “Anathoth's”family.
The verse continues, “... an hundred twenty and eight.” Ezra added the words, “an hundred twenty and eight” or “one hundred and twenty eight men who belonging to Anathoth who returned to Jerusalem”. Ezra accounted for one hundred and twenty-eight men who returned to Jerusalem who were part of “Anathoth's” family.
When we meditate upon Ezra's words in this verse, we discover there were “men” from the family of “Anathoth” who returned to Jerusalem with Zerubbabel at the commission of Jehovah God through Cyrus the king of Persia. God had a plan, and He was working it out. He wanted His people to be back in their homeland, and one by one the families who yielded to Him were going back. God invites every person to be a part of His Kingdom through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of everyone, and when we surrender our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to be a part of His home – the Kingdom of God.
