In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of the province that went up out of the captivity” which included those who came with “Zerubabbel” among whom were “Zattu, Zaccai, Bebai, Azgad, Adonikam, Adin, Ater of Hezekiah, Bezai, Jorah, Hashum, Gibbar, Bethlehem and the men of Netophah and Anathoth and Azmaveth”,and in chapter two and verse twenty-five of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of Kirjatharim, Chephirah, and Beeroth” where we read,
The children of Kirjatharim, Chephirah, and Beeroth,
seven hundred and forty and three.
The verse reads, “The children of Kirjatharim, Chephirah, and Beeroth, ...” Ezra began with the words, “the children” which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Kirjaharim” which means “belonging to Kirjaharim whose name means city of forests which was a city on the northern boundary of Judah and on the western and southern boundaries of Benjamin ”, “Chephirah” whose name means “lioness and was a city of the Bibeionites subsequently assigned to the tribe of Benjamin”, “and Beeroth” which means “and Beeroth whose name means wells and was a Gibeonite city allotted to Benjamin”. Ezra shared about the offspring of three more Israelite families, “Kirjatharim, Chephirah, and Beeroth” who returned to Jerusalem with Zerubbabel.
The verse continues, “... seven hundred and forty and three.” Ezra added the words, “seven hundred and forty and three”or “seven hundred and forty three offspring of Kirjatharim, Chephirah, and Beeroth were among the people who went back to Jerusalem”. Ezra shared how there were seven hundred and forty-three members of the families of “ Kirjatharim, Chephirah, and Beeroth” who obeyed the commission of Jehovah God through Cyrus the king of Persia to return to Jerusalem.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Ezra about three more families who returned to “Jerusalem in Judah”. God called them through Cyrus the king of Persia, and many of the people responded including the offspring of “Kirjatharim, Chephirah, and Beeroth”. God wants to have a personal intimate relationship with all of us, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind to make that possible. When we submit to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and bring us into an intimate relationship with Him so we hear and obey Him whenever He calls.
Next time Ezra shares about, “the children of Ramah and Gaba”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
