In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of the province that went up out of the captivity” which included those who came with “Zerubabbel” among whom were “the men of Michmas, Bethel and Ai, and the children of Nebo, Magbish, the other Elam, Harim, Lod, Hadid, Ono, Jericho, Senaah and the priest's children of Jedaiah, the house of Jeshua”,and in chapter two and verse thirty-seven of Ezra, Ezra shared about those among the priests, “the children of Immer” where we read,
The children of Immer, a thousand fifty and two.
The verse reads, “The children of Immer, ...” Ezra began with the words, “the children” which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Immer” which means “belonging to Immer whose name means he has said and was the ancestor of a priest who went back to Jerusalem”. Ezra shared how the offspring of “Immer” among the priests also returned to Jerusalem under the commission of Jehovah God through Cyrus the king of Persia.
The verse continues, “... a thousand fifty and two.” Ezra added the words, “a thousand fifty and two” or “one thousand and fifty two people among the descendants of Immer went back to their homeland”. Ezra said there were one thousand and fifty two members of the offspring of “Immer” who were in the priests' family returned to Jerusalem.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Ezra about one of the families who came from the priests of Israel whose name was “Immer”, and he was the ancestor of one thousand and fifty two people who returned to their home in Jerusalem. God's plan for the people of Israel was coming to pass, and He has a plan for us as well. “The children of Immer” were obedient to Jehovah God, and He desires that we are as well. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of everyone, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to be obedient to His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and empower us to live according to His purpose and plan. (See John 16:13; Acts 1:8)
Next time Ezra shares about another family among the priests, “the children of Pashur”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
