In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of the province that went up out of the captivity” which included those who came with “Zerubabbel” among whom were “the men of Michmas, Bethel and Ai, and the children of Nebo”,and in chapter two and verse thirty of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of Magbish” where we read,
The children of Magbish, an hundred fifty and six.
The verse reads, “The children of Magbish, ...” Ezra began with the words, “the children” which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Magbish” which means “belonging to Magbish whose name means congregating and was the head of a family of returning exiles”. Ezra shared how the descendants of “Magbish” joined the Israelites who returned to Jerusalem.
The verse goes on to say, “... an hundred fifty and six.” Ezra continued with the words, “an hundred fifty and six” or “one hundred and fifty six offspring of Magbish who went back to Jerusalem at Jehovah God's commission through Cyrus the king of Persia”. Ezra said there were one hundred and fifty six offspring of “Magbish” who obeyed the directive to go back to Jerusalem.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Ezra about another family who went back to Jerusalem after being captive in Babylon for seventy years. “Magbish” was the ancestor of these one hundred and fifty six descendants, and they traveled back to their homeland even as Jehovah God wanted them to do. God loves people, and His desire for them is to have a personal intimate relationship with us through His Son Jesus who came to the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit in us so we can hear and obey Him when He speaks.
Next time Ezra shares about, “the children of the other Elam”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
