The Children of Solomon's Servants - Ezra 2:56

In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of the province that went up out of the captivity” which included those who came with “Zerubabbel” among whom were “the children of Solomon's servants: the children of Sotai, the children of Sophereth, the children of Peruda, ...”,and in chapter two and verse fifty-six of Ezra, Ezra shared about, “the children of Jaalah, Darkon and Giddel” where we read,

The children of Jaalah, the children of Darkon, the children of Giddel,

The verse reads, The children of Jaalah, the children of Darkon, ...” Ezra began with the words, “the children” which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Jaalah” which means “belonging to Jaalah whose name means ascending and wasthe head of a family of the descendants of Solomon's slaves who returned from exile with Zerubbabel”, “the children” or “the offspring and progeny” “of Darkon” or “belonging to Darkon whose name means scatterer and was the head of a family of exiled temple slaves who returned with Zerubbabel”. Ezra accounted for more of the families of “Solomon's servants” who returned to Jerusalem as he mentioned “Jaalah and Darkon” who were their ancestors.

The verse goes on to say, the children of Giddel, ... Ezra continued with the words, the children” or “the offspring and progeny” “of Giddel” which means “belonging to Giddel whose name means very great and was the head of the descendants of Solomon's servants returning from exile with Zerubbabel”. Ezra included the offspring of “Giddel” who were among the “servants of Solomon” who went back to their homeland.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Ezra about more of the families who were descendants of “Solomon's servants” who returned to Jerusalem after being exiled in Babylon for seventy years. The offspring of “Jaalah, Darkon and Giddel” obeyed the commission of Jehovah God through Cyrus the king of Persia to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple there. These “servants” would be instrumental in the keeping of the temple, and even as God was to employ them in His service, He will do the same for every person who surrenders their life to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and commission us in His Kingdom with the power to be effective through the means of His Holy Spirit.

Next time Ezra shares about, “the children of Shephatiah, Hattil, Pochereth of Zebaim and Ami”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
