In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of the province that went up out of the captivity” which included those who came with “Zerubabbel” among whom were “Zattu, Zaccai, Bebai, Azgad, Adonikam, Adin, Ater of Hezekiah, Bezai, Jorah, Hashum, Gibbar and Bethlehem”,and in chapter two and verse twenty-two of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the men of Netophah” where we read,
The men of Netophah, fifty and six.
The verse reads, “The men of Netophah ...” Ezra began with the words, “the men” which means “the male human beings” “of Netophah” which means “belonging to Netophah whose name means dropping and was a town in Judah resettled by the exiles returning from Babylon with Zerubbabel”. Ezra accounted for the male human beings who belonged to “Netophah” who went back to Judah and resettle in a town by his name.
The verse goes on to say, “... fifty and six.” Ezra continued with the words, “fifty and six” or “fifty six males who were from the family of Netophah and returned to Judah”. Ezra said there were fifty six men who returned to Judah with Zerubbabel.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Ezra that there were “men” who went back to Judah along with the offspring of other Israelites. God was regathering His people back in their homeland, and He commissioned “the men of Netophah” to return to their home. God invites everyone to have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and commission us to expand His Kingdom by sharing His love with others.
Next time Ezra shares about, “the men of Anathoth”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
