In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of the province that went up out of the captivity” which included those who came with “Zerubabbel, Parosh, Shephatiah and Arah, Pahathmoab, of the children of Jeshua and Joab, Elam, Zattu, Zaccai, Bebai, Azgad and Adonikam”,and in chapter two and verse fifteen of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of Adin” where we read,
The children of Adin, four hundred fifty and four.
The verse reads, “The children of Adin ...” Ezra began with the words, “the children” which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Adin” which means “belonging to Adin whose name means dainty or delicate and was the ancestor of a family of exiles who returned to Jerusalem with Zerubbabel”. Ezra accounted for the offspring of “Adin” who went back to Jerusalem.
The verse continues, “... four hundred fifty and four.” Ezra added the words, “four hundred fifty and four” or “four hundred and fifty four offspring of Adin”. Ezra shared how four hundred and fifty four “children” of “Adin” went back to their homeland in Jerusalem.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Ezra how there were four hundred and fifty four offspring of “Adin” who obeyed the commission of Jehovah God through Cyrus the king of Persia to return to Jerusalem and Judah. God was regathering His people in their homeland even as He does today when He invites people to receive His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a desire to follow His commission and directive through His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth. (See John 16:13)
Next time Ezra shares about, “the children of Ater of Hezekiah”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
