In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of the province that went up out of the captivity” which included those who came with “Zerubabbel” among whom were “the men of Netophah and Anathoth and Azmaveth” and “the children of Kirjatharim, Chephirah, and Beeroth”,and in chapter two and verse twenty-six of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of Ramah and Gaba” where we read,
The children of Ramah and Gaba, six hundred twenty and one.
The verse reads, “The children of Ramah and Gaba, ...” Ezra began with the words, “the children” which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Ramah” which means “belonging to Ramah whose name means hill and was a place inhabited by the Benjamites after the return from captivity” “and Gaba” or “whose name means hill and was a city in Benjamin, modern 'Jeba', which stands on the top of a steep terraced hill, six miles or ten kilometers north east of Jerusalem and three miles or five kilometers from Gibeah, on the edge of the Wadi Suweinit looking northward to the opposite village of ancient Michmash, modern 'Mukhmas'”. Ezra included the offspring of “Ramah and Gaba” among the people who returned to Jerusalem.
The verse goes on to say, “... six hundred twenty and one.” Ezra continues with the words, “six hundred twenty and one”or “six hundred and twenty-one offspring of Ramah and Gaba went back to Jerusalem in Judah at the direction of Jehovah God through Cyrus the king of Persia”. Ezra accounted for six hundred and twenty-one members of the families of“Ramah and Gaba” who went back to Jerusalem.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Ezra about another two families who returned to Jerusalem at the commission of Jehovah God through Cyrus the king of Persia. Having gone through many of these names in our study, we find just how loving and kind God is to these people as He gathers them in their homeland. God wants us to be in a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. His invitation is to everyone, and only when we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord” will we be forgiven of our sins and granted everlasting life. Let all who read these words be like the offspring of “Ramah and Gaba” and respond in belief and obedience to Jehovah God and His Son Jesus.
Next time Ezra shares about, “the men of Michmas”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
