In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of the province that went up out of the captivity” which included those who came with “Zerubabbel” among whom were “the children of Solomon's servants: the children of Sotai, the children of Sophereth, the children of Peruda, the children of Jaalah, the children of Darkon” and “the children of Giddel, ...”,and in chapter two and verse fifty-seven of Ezra, Ezra shared about, “the children of Shephatiah, Hattil, Pochereth of Zebaim and Ami” where we read,
The children of Shephatiah, the children of Hattil,
the children of Pochereth of Zebaim, the children of Ami.
The verse reads, “The children of Shephatiah, the children of Hattil, ...” Ezra began with the words, “the children” which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Shephatiah” which means “belonging to Shephatiah whose name means Jehovah has judged and was another head of a family of exiles returning from Babylon with Zerubbabel”, “the children” or “the offspring and progeny” “of Hattil” or “belonging to Hattil whose name means doubtful and was head of a family of the children of Solomon's slaves who returned from exile with Zerubbabel”. Ezra shared about the offspring of “Shephatiah and Hattil” who also were part of the group of “Solomon's servants” who went back to Jerusalem.
The verse continues, “... the children of Pochereth of Zebaim, the children of Ami.” Ezra added the words, “the children”or “the offspring and progeny” “of Pochereth of Zebaim” which means “belonging to Pochereth of Zebaim whose name means here's the cutting off and was a servant of Solomon whose descendants returned from exile with Zerubbabel”, “the children” or “the offspring and progeny” “of Ami” which means “belonging to Ami whose name means bond-servant and a descendant of Amon who was Solomon's servant”. Ezra accounted for the offspring of “Pochereth of Zabaim and Ami”who went back to Jerusalem and were part of the families of “Solomon's servants”.
When we consider the words in this verse, we discover through Ezra more about the families of “Solomon's servants”who went back to Jerusalem at the commission of Jehovah God through Cyrus the king of Persia. The offspring of “Shephatiah, Hattil, Pochereth of Zabim and Ami” all responded to God's commission and returned to Jerusalem. God was assembling a group of people who would not only build His temple, but also serve within it afterward. God desires to reach people today through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and employ us in His Kingdom according to the gifts and blessings He provides.
Next time Ezra shares about, “all the Nethinims, and the children of Solomon's servants”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
