The Priests' Children of Pashur - Ezra 2:38

In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of the province that went up out of the captivity” which included those who came with “Zerubabbel” among whom were “the men of Michmas, Bethel and Ai, and the children of Nebo, Magbish, the other Elam, Harim, Lod, Hadid, Ono, Jericho, Senaah and the priest's children of Jedaiah, the house of Jeshua and Immer”,and in chapter two and verse thirty-eight of Ezra, Ezra shared about another family among the priests, “the children of Immer” where we read,

The children of Pashur, a thousand two hundred forty and seven.

The verse reads, The children of Pashur, ... Ezra began with the words, “the children” which means “the offspring and progeny ” “of Pashur” which means “belonging to Pashur whose name means freedom and was the head of a family of returned exiles”. Ezra accounted for the offspring of “Pashur” who also went back to Jerusalem after being exiled in Babylon for seventy years.

The verse continues, ... a thousand two hundred forty and seven. Ezra added the words, a thousand two hundred forty and seven” or “twelve hundred and forty seven members of the family of Pashur returned to Jerusalem”. Ezra shared how there were twelve hundred and forty seven descendants within the family of “Pashur” who went back to their homeland.

When we meditate upon Ezra's words in this verse, we discover another of the families who were among the priests of Israel who returned to Jerusalem at the commission of Jehovah God through Cyrus the king of Persia. “Pashur's”offspring heeded the call of God and went back home. God is calling to every person through His Holy Spirit to have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and speak to us through His word and His Holy Spirit as He fulfills His plan and purpose for our lives.

Next time Ezra shares about another family among the priests, “the children of Harim”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
