The Children of Bezai - Ezra 2:17

In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of the province that went up out of the captivity” which included those who came with “Zerubabbel” among whom were “Zattu, Zaccai, Bebai, Azgad, Adonikam, Adin and Ater of Hezekiah”,and in chapter two and verse seventeen of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of Bezai” where we read,

The children of Bezai, three hundred twenty and three.

The verse reads, “The children of Bezai ... Ezra began with the words, “the children” which means “the offspring and progeny” “of Bezai” or “belonging to Bezai whose name means conquerer and was a chief of the returning exiles in the time of Ezra”. Ezra referred to the offspring of “Bezai” who returned to Jerusalem.

The verse goes on to say, ... three hundred twenty and three. Ezra continued with the words, three hundred twenty and three” or “three hundred and twenty three offspring of Bezai went back to Jerusalem”. Ezra shared how three hundred and twenty three “children” from “Bezai” returned to their homeland with Zerubabbel.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover through Ezra another of the families who returned to Israel in obedience to God and to the commission of Cyrus the king of Persia. Each of these families chose to leave where they were in Babylon to go back to their homeland. God wants us to be obedient to Him, and because we have disobeyed Him through the sin in our lives, He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the importance of every person and family to Jehovah God.

Next time Ezra shares about, “the children of Jorah”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
