Gabriel Sent to Nazareth - Luke 1:26

The Beloved Physician Luke wrote how Zacharias and Elisabeth were told by the angel Gabriel they would have a son. Luke continued, “And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying, Thus has the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men”, and in chapter one and verse twenty-six of his book Luke shares, “in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God”, where we read:

And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,

The verse reads, “And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, ... Luke began with the words, “And in the sixth month” or “and in the sixth month of the pregnancy of Elisabeth” “the angel Gabriel” which refers to “the messenger and envoy named Gabriel which means man of God” “was sent” or “was ordered and appointed” “from God” which means “directed by the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “unto a city of Galilee” or “toward a dwelling place or town belonging to Galilee which means circuit and was the name of a region of northern Palestine, bounded on the north by Syria, on the west by Sidon, Tyre, Ptolemais and their territories and the promontory of Carmel, on the south by Samaria and on the east by the Jordan”. Luke shared when Elisabeth was in the “sixth month” of her pregnancy the “angel Gabriel”, who previously met with Zacharias, was sent by “God” to a “dwelling place” within the area of “Galilee”.

The verse continues, “... named Nazareth, ...” Luke added the words, “named” which means “surnamed and called” “Nazareth” which means “the guarded one” and was “the ordinary residence and home town of Christ”. Luke shared how the “angel Gabriel” was sent to the the “village” which was called “Nazareth”.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we see a second dispatching of the “angel Gabriel”. This time he was to go to the tiny village town of “Nazareth” which was in the “Galilee” area. This continues to be part of God's plan for the salvation of mankind, and because this will be the most important message “Gabriel” has ever given, Luke set the stage for His meeting with Jesus' mother. God desires for people to have a relationship with Him through His Son Jesus, and when they yield their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, He willingly comes to where they are with His “salvation, forgiveness and everlasting life”.

Next time Luke shares how “Gabriel” came, “to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
