Come; For All Things are Ready - Luke 14:17

The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus said, “A certain man made a great supper, and bade many”, and in chapter fourteen and verse seventeen of his book Luke shared how Jesus tells how the host says, “Come; for all things are now ready” where we read:

And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden,

Come; for all things are now ready.

The verse reads, “And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, ...” Luke began with the words, “and sent his servant” or “and the man who made the great supper dispatched and sent forth his slave, bondman and man of servile condition” “at supper time” which means “at the definite moment and point of time when the feast or formal meal usually held at the evening was ready to be served” “to say to them that were bidden” or “to utter, declare and proclaim to the people who were invited and called by name” the following words. Luke shared how Jesus said the time for the “supper” had come, and the “host of the feast” sent a messenger to make the following statement to guests who were invited.

The verse continues, “... Come; for all things are now ready.” Luke added the word, “come” or “arise, appear and come forth”; “for all things” which means “because, since and on account that each, every, the whole and everything necessary for the feast” “are now ready” or “are already prepared”. Luke shared how Jesus said the “servant” of the “certain man” who made the “feast” was to tell the invited guest that everything was prepared and “ready” for them to partake.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn more of Jesus' parable. The “feast” was ready, and now all that was necessary is for the invited guests to appear and partake of it. The “host” sent word to them through his “servant”, and we shall see how they respond in the next few verses. Let it suffice for now to know that God has prepared a “great feast” within Heaven, and everyone is invited. Their access is gained by believing and trusting in His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, and when they yield their lives to Him, they say “yes” to His invitation. Let all who read these words carefully consider how God's “feast” is prepared, and He wants everyone to “come”.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus said all the invited guests, “with one consent began to make excuse”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
