The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus said, “A certain man made a great supper, and bade many, and sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray you have me excused. And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray you have me excused”, and in chapter fourteen and verse twenty of his book Luke shared how Jesus said one of the invited guests said, “I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come” where we read:
And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.
The verse reads, “And another said, I have married a wife, ...” Luke began with the words, “and another said” or “and one other person who was invited to the feast uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “I have married” which means “I just gave myself in marriage to” “a wife” or “a woman who becomes married”. Luke shared how Jesus said the next man who was invited to the feast rendered the excuse that he just became a married man.
The verse goes on to say, “... and therefore I cannot come.” Luke continued with the words, “and therefore” or “and wherefore, consequently and on this account” “I cannot come” which means “I am unable to arise and appear at the feast”. Luke shared how Jesus said the man who just “married” told the servant sent by the feast host that he was unable to attend.
When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus said another person gave an excuse that he could not attend the “feast” because he was just married. A “family relationship” kept this person from attending. Because the man valued his position with his wife more than attending the “feast”, he did not come. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and there is no relationship that is greater in importance than the one with Him. Let all who read these words carefully examine all their relationships and know this, no one would have any family relationships without the help of Almighty God.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus said, “then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
