John the apostle wrote about Jesus, “Now after two days he departed from there, and went into Galilee. For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet has no honor in his own country. Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast. So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum. When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death. Then said Jesus unto him, Except you see signs and wonders, you will not believe. The nobleman said unto him, Sir, come down before my child dies”, and in chapter four and verse fifty of his book, John shared how Jesus said to the nobleman, “Go your way; your son lives” where we read:
Jesus said unto him, Go your way; your son lives.
And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.
The verse reads, “Jesus said unto him, Go your way; your son lives.”. John began with the words, “Jesus said unto him” or “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate uttered, declared and proclaimed to the nobleman”, “Go your way” which means “depart and leave upon your path”; “your son lives” or your, the nobleman's male progeny or offspring is alive and continues living”. John shared how Jesus instructed the “nobleman” to depart and journey toward his home because his son was “living” and would continue to do so.
The verse goes on to say, “And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.” John continued with the words, “and the man believed the word” which means “and the nobleman trusted, had confidence in and thought to be true the speech and utterance” “that Jesus had spoken unto him” or “that the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate uttered, declared and proclaimed to the nobleman” “and he went his way” which means “and the nobleman departed and traveled toward his home”. John shared how the “nobleman” trusted what Jesus said and departed toward his home.
When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus gave the directive to the nobleman to “leave” because his son was “living”. This word inspired the nobleman to depart from Jesus, and he traveled to his home. God loves to help people regardless of how dire their circumstances may be. When they come to Him through His Son Jesus, God will not only forgive them, but will also provide them with everlasting life. Those who are wise will “believe” the word of Jesus and yield their lives to Him to be their personal “Savior and Lord”.
Next time John shares how servants say to the nobleman, “your son lives”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
