Psalms chapter forty six begins with the heading, “[[To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, A Song upon Alamoth.]]” which breaks down “the the chief Musician” or “to the preeminent, overseeing superintendent or chief choir director” “for the sons of Korah” which means “on behalf of the descendants or male children and grandchildren belonging to Korah whose name means bald”, “A Song” or “a musical and lyrical religious song” “upon Alamoth” which means “on young women perhaps sopranos”, and in chapter forty six and verse one of Psalms David said, “God is our Refuge, Strength and very present help” where we read,
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
The verse begins, “God is our refuge and strength, ...” David began with the words, “God is our refuge” or “the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God exists as our, David and his fellow believers', shelter, hope and trust” “and strength” which means “and might, boldness and power materially, socially and physically”. David declared Jehovah God to be he and his believing companions' shelter, hope, might and power.
The verse goes on to say, “... a very present help in trouble.” David continued with the words, “a very present help” or “a great, exceeding, mighty, secure and ready succor, assistant and aid” “in trouble” which means “in straits, distress, adversity and affliction”. David said he and his companions' “God” was exceedingly secure and ready to assist them when they encountered difficulties and afflictions.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn from David three of the most important aspects to Jehovah God. First, He is our “refuge” or place of hope and trust when we have need to hide. Second, He is our “strength” or might and power when we feel weak, and third, He is our “very present help” or exceedingly ready assistant whenever we have difficulties and afflictions. Jehovah God desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and He sent Him into the world to die for the sins of all mankind so we could rely upon Him as our “refuge, strength and very present help”. God loves us, and when we surrender to His Son Jesus, we will be forgiven of our sins and granted everlasting life with Him where we will enjoy His presence and provision for all eternity.
Next time David says, “Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
