The Zeal of God's House - Psalms 69:9

In Psalms chapter sixty nine David said, “I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother's children”, and in chapter sixty-nine and verse nine of Psalms David said, “for the zeal of your house has eaten me up” where we read,

For the zeal of your house has eaten me up;

and the reproaches of them that reproached you are fallen upon me.

The verse begins, For the zeal of your house has eaten me up; David began with the words, “for the zeal” or “because, since and on account that the jealous disposition, ardor and passion” “of your house” which means “belonging to your, the Divine judge Jehovah God's, dwelling place, habitation, shelter and abode” “has eaten me up” or “has consumed and devoured me, David”. David said the passion for Jehovah God's dwelling place consumed him.

The verse continues,and the reproaches of them that reproached you are fallen upon me. David added the words, “and the reproaches” or “and the taunting, scorn and insults” “of them that reproached you” which means “belonging to the people who taunted, scorned and insulted you, Divine judge Jehovah God” “are fallen upon me” or “are cast, apportioned and thrown down upon me, David”. David said the people who scorned and insulted Jehovah God were cast upon him as well.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David identified with God as people scorned and insulted him. Because David, like Jesus, was passionate about the dwelling place of God, people taunted Him and misused God's temple. Jesus threw those that sold oxen, sheep and doves and the changers of money out of the temple in Jerusalem when they were making merchandise of people there, and His “zeal” was unmistakable in anger. (See Mark 11:15-17 and John 2:14-17) Identifying with Jehovah God is sometimes manifested through persecution and tribulations, however, when we realize God's Son Jesus was sent into the world to die for our sins so we can be forgiven and inherit everlasting life with Him, one day our suffering will be over and we shall live forever with God. God knows we will face taunting and ridicule when we yield to His plan of salvation through Jesus, but when this happens, let us remember Jesus' words, “Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (See Matthew 5:10)

Next time David shares about, “when I wept, and chastened my soul with fasting”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
