Passing from Libnah to Lachish - Joshua 10:31

In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “Joshua passed from Makkedah, and all Israel with him, unto Libnah, and fought against Libnah. And the LORD delivered it also, and the king thereof, into the hand of Israel; and he smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain in it; but did unto the king thereof as he did unto the king of Jericho”, and in chapter ten and verse thirty-one of the book of Joshua, we learn how, “Joshua passed from Libnah, and all Israel with him, unto Lachish” where we read,

And Joshua passed from Libnah, and all Israel with him, unto Lachish,

and encamped against it, and fought against it:

The verse reads, “And Joshua passed from Libnah, and all Israel with him, unto Lachish, …” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “and Joshua” whose name means “Jehovah is salvation” “passed from Libnah” or “left, departed and separated from Libnah whose name means ‘pavement’ and was a royal city of the Canaanites in the southwest captured by Joshua; allocated to Judah and made a Levitical city; site unknown”, “and all Israel with him” which means “and each, every, the whole and everyone within Israel, whose name means God prevails and is the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob, alongside and accompanying him, Joshua”, “unto Lachish” or “toward Lachish whose name means ‘invincible’ and was a city lying south of Jerusalem on the borders of Simeon and which belonged to the Amorites until conquered by Joshua and allotted to Judah”. Joshua or the writer shared how “Joshua” and everyone in “Israel” departed from “Libnah” and traveled to “Lachish”

The verse goes on to say, “and encamped against it, and fought against it:” Joshua or the writer continued with the words, “and encamped against it”  which means “and set up a siege in opposition to it, Lachish” “and fought against it” or “and battled and warred in opposition to it, Lachish”. Joshua or the writer shared how “Joshua” and the people of “Israel” set up a siege in opposition to the city of “Lachish” and began to do battle with the people there.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover the next city that “Joshua” and the people of “Israel” were to conquer. “Lachish” was next in line, so “Joshua” and the people of “Israel” set up a camp outside of the city and attacked them. Jehovah God was showing Himself to be mighty in the promise land through “Joshua” and the army of “Israel”, and because He gave an oath that they would receive this territory, all of their enemies were being defeated. God loves Israel, and He loves us. He knows we have sin in our lives that leads to death, (See Romans 3:23; 6:23) so He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised Him from the dead after three days. When we yield our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and equip us with His Holy Spirit who will not only identify the areas of sin that must be defeated in our lives, but also give us the power and ability to conquer them to the glory of His name.

Next time we learn how, “the LORD delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
