In the book of Ezra, Ezra said, “Now these are the children of the province that went up out of the captivity, of those which had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away unto Babylon, and came again unto Jerusalem and Judah, every one unto his city. Which came with Zerubbabel: Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispar, Bigvai, Rehum, Baanah. The number of the men of the people of Israel:”, and in chapter two and verse three of Ezra, Ezra shared about “the children of Parosh” where we read,
The children of Parosh, two thousand an hundred seventy and two.
The verse reads, “The children of Parosh, ...” Ezra began with the words, “the children” or “the offspring and progeny” “of Parosh” which means “belonging to Parosh whose name means flea and was ancestor of a family who returned from exile with Zerubbabel and a second group who returned with Ezra”. Ezra mentioned the offspring of the ancestor of a family who returned to Jerusalem named “Parosh”.
The verse continues, “... two thousand an hundred seventy and two.” Ezra added the words, “two thousand an hundred seventy and two” or “there were two thousand one hundred and seventy two people who returned to Jerusalem under Parosh”. Ezra accounted for the twenty-one hundred and seventy two offspring of “Parosh” who returned to Jerusalem.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover through Ezra the name of one of the families who returned to Jerusalem with “Zerubabbel”. “Parosh” whose name means “a flea” was then ancestor to a group of people who desired to go back to their homeland, Jerusalem, and they joined among the people who returned. Every person who returned was significant to Jehovah God, and so much so that He insured that their names were written in the Bible. God loves people, and He loves us. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and write our names in His “book of life” so we may live with Him forever in our eternal homeland, Heaven. (See Philippians 4:3; Revelation 3:5, 13:8, 17:8, 20:12, 20:15, 21:27, 22:19)
Next time Ezra shares about, “the children of Shephatiah”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
