Mark wrote how Jesus and His disciples, “in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. And Peter calling to remembrance said unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which you cursed is withered away”, and in chapter eleven and verse twenty-two of his book, Mark shared how Jesus said, “Have faith in God” where we read:
And Jesus answering said unto them, Have faith in God.
The verse reads, “And Jesus answering said unto them, ...” Mark began with the words, “and Jesus” which refers to “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “answering” or “responding and beginning to speak” “said unto them” which means “uttered, declared and proclaimed to His disciples” the following words. Mark shared how Jesus began to respond to Peter's words concerning the “fig tree” being “withered”.
The verse goes on to say, “... Have faith in God.” Mark continued with the words, “have faith” which means “hold, own and possess conviction of the truth, belief and assurance” “in God” or “within the Godhead which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Mark shared how Jesus' answer to Peter's statement was for His disciples to hold to “the conviction that God exists and is the creator and ruler of all things, the provider and bestower of eternal salvation through Christ”.
When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus simplified the actions for His disciples concerning the cursing of the “fig tree”. Jesus' disciples were not to have “faith” in their words, their lives, others' lives or anything other than “God” Himself. God is the Creator of the Universe who designed and made everything, and when a person puts their “faith and trust” in Him and His Son Jesus, they place their “belief” in the only thing necessary for “age abiding eternal life”.
Next time Mark shares how Jesus says what happens to, “whosoever shall say unto this mountain, be removed, and be cast into the sea” , so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
