Mark wrote how, “the scribes and chief priests heard” what Jesus said about the “temple” being God's “house of prayer”, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine”, and in chapter eleven and verse nineteen of his book, Mark shared, “when even was come, he went out of the city” where we read:
And when even was come, he went out of the city.
The verse reads, “And when even was come, ...” Mark began with the words, “and when” which means “and at the time and moment” “even was come” or “the evening time or late in the day”. Mark shared how the “evening time” began to set.
The verse continues, “... he went out of the city.” Mark added the words, “he went out” which means “Jesus departed and left out” “of the city” or “from the city of Jerusalem”. Mark shared how Jesus left from the city of Jerusalem late in the day.
When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how the “religious leaders” were making their plans to “destroy” Jesus, but He left “Jerusalem”. God knew these plans needed to take place, and Jesus allowed the time for them to develop. God purposed to provide His Son Jesus as a sacrifice for the sins of all mankind, and though the “religious leaders” believed themselves to be the ones who could get rid of Jesus, it was God's plan all along. God desires to save as many as people as will believe in His Son Jesus, and even when there is opposition to Him, God's way will always prevail.
Next time Mark shares how Jesus and His disciples, “saw the fig tree dried up from the roots” , so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
