No Vessels Carried through the Temple - Mark 11:16

Mark wrote how Jesus and His disciples came, “to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves”, and in chapter eleven and verse sixteen of his book, Mark shared how Jesus would not allow anyone to, “carry any vessel through the temple” where we read:

And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple.

The verse reads, “And would not suffer that any man ...” Mark began with the words, “and would not suffer” which means “Jesus would not permit or allow” “that any man” which refers to “and any certain person whether male or female” do the following. Mark shared how Jesus would not allow anyone to do the following.

The verse goes on to say, ... should carry any vessel through the temple. Mark continued with the words, “should carry” which means “to bear, toss about or transport” “any vessel” or “any utensil, domestic gear or chosen instruments” “through the temple” which means “through the sacred place made for worship and prayer”. Mark shared how Jesus would not allow anyone to “carry” anything through the “sacred place of worship”.

When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus took over the “temple” in Jerusalem as He threw people and their merchant accessories out. Jesus would not allow anyone to “carry” anything through the “sacred temple for worship”. (See Isaiah 37:32) God wants people to be in a personal relationship with Him, and when these “religious leaders” and merchants were taking advantage of “worshipers of God”, Jesus stepped in and no one would stop Him. Jesus is indeed the Messiah sent from God, and those who are wise will understand even this act corresponds to God's Holy plan of “salvation” for man.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus asks, “Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer?” , so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
