No Man Eat Fruit of You - Mark 11:14

Mark wrote how, “Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the eventide was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve. And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry. And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet, and in chapter eleven and verse fourteen of his book, Mark shared how Jesus said to the fig tree, “no man eat fruit of you” where we read:

And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of you hereafter for ever.

And his disciples heard it.

The verse reads, “And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of you hereafter for ever.” Mark began with the words, “and Jesus” which means “and the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “answered” or “responded and began to speak” “and said” which means “and uttered, declared and proclaimed to the fig tree”, “No man” or “no person whether male or female” “eat fruit of you” which means “consume and devour fruit from the fig tree” “hereafter forever” or “no longer, no further and no more”. Mark shared how Jesus basically “cursed” the “fig tree”, and He told it that no one would ever consume “fruit” from that “tree” again.

The verse goes on to say, And his disciples heard it. Mark added the words, “and his disciples” which means “and Jesus' students, pupils and attendants” “heard it” or “were given the faculty of hearing, perceiving and knowing what Jesus said to the fig tree”. Mark shared how Jesus' disciples overheard what Jesus said to the “fig tree”.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see Jesus demonstrate His power over nature, and since the tree gave the illusion that it was bearing “fruit” and did not, Jesus cursed it. Jesus is looking for “fruit” among His believers, and those who have faith and trust in Him should desire to bear “fruit” in His Kingdom. Those who do not “bear fruit” need to know that Jesus will continue to search for “spiritual fruit” to partake of and He will bless those who produce for Him.

Next time Mark shares how, “Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
