In Psalms chapter forty six David said, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea. Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah”, and in chapter forty six and verse four of Psalms David said, “There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God” where we read,
There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God,
the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.
The verse begins, “There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, ...” David began with the words, “there is a river” or “there exists a flood or an underground stream”, “the streams whereof” which means “the channels of irrigation within the river” “shall make glad” or “will exceedingly gladden and cause to rejoice” “the city of God” which means “the town belonging to the Divine ruler, judge and Supreme God”. David said a “flowing stream” with channels of irrigation would exceedingly gladden the dwelling place of the Divine judge and ruler.
The verse continues, “... the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.” David added the words, “the holy place” or “the set apart and ceremonially and religiously sacred location” “of the tabernacles” which means “belonging to the residence, dwelling place and habitation” “of the most High” or “belonging to the sacred, set apart, uppermost, highest and holy One who is Jehovah God”. David said the “city” which is made “glad” by the streams of the “river” holds the dwelling places of the “most High Jehovah God”.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David referred to a flowing body of water with channels that served to gladden the “city” of the Divine judge and the habitation of the uppermost, highest and holy Jehovah God. In addition to “a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb” spoken of by John the apostle in the book of Revelation, (See Revelation 22:1), rejoicing, gladness and sacredness is within the place where God dwells. His desire is to save every person from their sins so they may live with Him forever. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die for the sins of all mankind, and when we submit our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord” we will be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and enjoy the gladness and sacredness of the Kingdom of God forever.
Next time David says, “God is in the midst of her”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
