The Waters Roar and Troubled - Psalms 46:3

In Psalms chapter forty six David said, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea”, and in chapter forty six and verse three of Psalms David said,Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled” where we read,

Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled,

though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.

The verse begins, Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, ... David began with the words, “though the waters thereof roar” or “even should the water-springs or watercourses become dangerous, violent and transitory” “and be troubled” which means “and exist as boiling, foaming, fermented and in turmoil”. David said even should the “water-courses” within the sea be dangerous, violent, boiling, fermented and in turmoil, he and his companions would have no need to be afraid.

The verse goes on to say, “... though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.” David continued with the words, “though the mountains shake” or “even should the risings above the plain or range of hills quake, move and tremble” “with the swelling thereof” which means “with a rising, haughty and majestic highness and pride”. “Selah” or “uplift, exalt and pause to meditate upon it”. David proclaimed that he and his fellow believers had no need to be afraid even if the “mountains” were quaking, moving and being uplifted in majesty, and he desired for all those reading and listening to his words to pause and think about this idea.

When we consider the words in this verse, we realize David and his companions had no need to be afraid even if tsunamis and earthquakes were to appear. Jehovah God is more powerful, stronger, mightier and equipped to handle any movement upon the earth. God created the world, (See Genesis 1:1) and as powerful as He is, He desires to have a personal relationship with every person who surrenders to His Son Jesus. He sent Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us eternal life and live with us whether or not the earth and it's waters are tossing, tottering or quaking.

Next time David says,There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
