In Psalms chapter forty nine David said Jehovah God, “sees that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others. Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; … Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling”, and in chapter forty nine and verse fifteen of Psalms David said, “but God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave” where we read,
But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.
The verse begins, “But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave:” David began with the words, “But God” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God” “will redeem my soul” which means “shall ransom, deliver, save and rescue my, David's, inner man, mind, desire and seat of emotions and passions” “from the power” or “apart and separate from the strength, might and ability” “of the grave” which means “pertaining to sheol, the underworld, hell and the pit”. David said the Divine judge Jehovah God would ransom and rescue him from the strength and ability within sheol, the underworld and hell.
The verse goes on to say, “for he shall receive me. Selah.” David continued with the words, “for he shall receive me” or “because, since and on account that he, the Divine judge Jehovah God, will seize, lay hold of, acquire, snatch and take me, David, away”. “Selah” which means “exalt, uplift and pause to mediate upon it”. David said Jehovah God would lay hold of and seize him so that the underworld and hell do not have any strength against him, and anyone reading his words should pause and meditate upon this idea.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how David relied upon Jehovah God to rescue him from the “power” of death and the “grave”. It is certain that every person who is living will one day die even as ten out of ten people will encounter death. God knew this, and because of sin, every person will die. (See Romans 6:23) He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die for the sins of everyone, and when we trust in and rely upon Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life with Him. God loves people, and rather than have them separated from Him forever, He invites every person to come to Him, receive His Son Jesus and align with His plan of eternal salvation for all who surrender to Him.
Next time David says, “Be not afraid when one is made rich”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
