Like Sheep Laid in the Grave - Psalms 49:14

In Psalms chapter forty nine David said Jehovah God, “sees that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others. Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names. Nevertheless man being in honor abides not: he is like the beasts that perish. This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah”, and in chapter forty nine and verse fourteen of Psalms David said, “like sheep they are laid in the grave” where we read,

Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.

The verse begins, Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them;” David began with the words, “Like sheep” or “similar and in likeness to small grazing animals such as a flock of sheep” “they are laid in the grave” which means “the people who have wealth, riches and honor are set, appointed and arrayed within sheol, the underworld, the grave, hell and the pit”; “death shall feed on them” or “pestilence, ruin and absolute destruction will graze, pasture and rule upon the people who have wealth, riches and honor”. David said people who have wealth, riches and honor are similar to “sheep” who are placed within a tomb where destruction and ruin shall graze upon their bodies.

The verse continues, and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.” David added the words, “and the upright” or “and people both male and female who are straight, correct, right and pleasing” “shall have dominion over them” which means “will dominate, rule and subjugate people who have wealth, riches and honor” “in the morning or “within the break of day, sunrise and early in the day”; “and their beauty” which means “and the image and idol of the people who have wealth, riches and honor on earth” “shall consume in the grave” or “ will wear out, be used up completely, waste and wax old within sheol, the underworld and place of no return” “from their dwelling” which means “apart and separate from the residence, abode and habitation of the people who are wealthy, rich and with honor”. David said people who are straight, right and pleasing to God will rule in the early dawn over those who are wealthy, rich and have honor in this life, and they will be destroyed and ruined within the underworld.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David likens the people who have the world's riches to sheep who are put in a grave where their bodies return to the dust. David said people who are right and correct will rule over them, but their bodies will perish. The souls of everyone will continue to live. Those who have given their lives to God's Son Jesus Christ will live forever with Him, and those who refuse and reject Him will be separated from Him forever. (See Matthew 8:12, 22:13 and 25:30) God's desire is for everyone to live with Him in Heaven, and He sent Jesus into the world to die on the cross to pay the penalty of death for the sins of all mankind. Anyone who believes and trusts in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God. Let us give praise, honor and glory to Jehovah God and His Son Jesus for their provision of an eternal existence with them.

Next time David says, but God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
