Thinking Your House Will Last Forever - Psalms 49:11

In Psalms chapter forty nine David said, “They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him. (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceases for ever:) That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption. For he sees that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others”, and in chapter forty nine and verse eleven of Psalms David shared how, “Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever” where we read,

Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.

The verse begins, Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; ” David began with the words, “their inward thought is” or “the ideas, thinking, understanding and perception of foolish people who act as though they will live and possess their wealth forever exists as”, “that their houses” which means “that the dwelling places, habitations and homes of the people who believe they will possess their wealth forever,” “shall continue for ever” or “will last, endure and keep going unto perpetuity, continual existence and everlasting”, “and their dwelling places” which means “and the houses and abodes of the people who believe they will possess their wealth forever,” “to all generations” or “to each, every, the whole and everyone of the habitations, dwelling places and periods of time”. David said people who think they will possess their life and wealth forever believe they will endure unto perpetuity, and that their houses and abodes will last for generations to come.

The verse goes on to say, they call their lands after their own names.” David continued with the words, “they call their lands” or “they, the people who believe they will possess their wealth forever, proclaim, commission, appoint and give name to their grounds, plots, territory and country” “after their own names” which means “as a memorial to their individual fame, reputation and glory”. David said people who own properties name them as a memorial to their own reputation and glory.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how people who are rich, wealthy and in honor believe they will have their homes and possessions even unto the future generations. They name their buildings, lands and belongs after their own selves which implies their continual existence. However, the Bible says, “it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” (See Hebrews 9:27), and everyone will leave behind everything they have gained upon the earth. All riches, lands, houses, transportation, vehicles, vessels, relationships and even our physical bodies will be left. God knows this, and this is why He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die for the sins of all mankind. When we submit to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to inherit His eternal Kingdom in Heaven where there will be blessings that exceed anything we have owned upon the earth.

Next time David says, man being in honor abides not, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
