In Psalms ninety-nine the Psalmist said, “Moses and Aaron among his priests, and Samuel among them that call upon his name; they called upon the LORD, and he answered them. He spoke unto them in the cloudy pillar: they kept his testimonies, and the ordinance that he gave them. You answered them, O LORD our God: you were a God that forgave them, though you took vengeance of their inventions”, and in chapter ninety-nine and verse nine of Psalms the Psalmist said, “Exalt the LORD our God” where we read,
Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at his holy hill; for the LORD our God is holy.
The verse begins, “Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at his holy hill;” The Psalmist began with the words, “exalt the LORD” or “lift up, make lofty, and set on high Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “our God” which means “our, the Psalmist and the people's, Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”, “and worship” or “and bow down, prostrate yourselves and pay homage” “at his holy hill” which means “at his, Jehovah God's, set apart, separated and morally and ceremonially sacred rising above the plain or mountain”. The Psalmist called upon the people reading and listening to his words to lift up Jehovah God and prostrate themselves in the presence of His sacred mountain.
The verse continues, “for the LORD our God is holy.” The Psalmist added the words, “for the LORD” or “because, since and on account that Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “our God” which means “our, the Psalmist and the people's, Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God” “is holy” or “exists as set apart, separated and morally and ceremonially sacred”. The Psalmist said the reason he and the people should set on high the Divine judge Jehovah God and bow down in “worship” at His sacred mountain was because He is morally and ceremonially sacred and set apart from all others.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist ended this Psalm by calling upon all his readers and listeners to join together in worship and adoration of Jehovah God. God is “holy”, and we are not only to worship Him as such, but also be “holy” ourselves. (See 1 Peter 1:16) The only way this is possible is through the substitutionary act of God's Son Jesus who came into the world to be crucified on the cross for our sins. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow His “righteousness” to become our “righteousness”. (See 2 Corinthians 5:21) God wants to have an intimate personal relationship with us, and when we believe and trust in His Son Jesus, we lift Him up in worship because of who He is and what He has done for us.
Next time we begin a new chapter and see the Psalmist say, “make a joyful noise unto the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
