In Psalms ninety-four the Psalmist said, “O LORD God, to whom vengeance belongs. O God, to whom vengeance belongs, show yourself. Lift up yourself, you judge of the earth: render a reward to the proud”, and in chapter ninety-four and verse four of Psalms the Psalmist asked, “how long shall the wicked triumph?” where we read,
LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph?
The verse begins, “LORD, how long shall the wicked, ...” The Psalmist began with the word, “LORD” or “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “how long” which means “for what length of time and space”, “shall the wicked” or “will the criminal, guilty ones of crime and hostile to God” do the following. The Psalmist began to ask Jehovah God what length of time the people who commit evil and wrong will do the following.
The verse continues, “... how long shall the wicked triumph?” The Psalmist added the words, “how long” or “for what length of time and space” “shall the wicked triumph” which means “will the criminal, guilty ones of crime and hostile to God exult, be joyful and rejoice”? The Psalmist again asked his question concerning the length of time the people who commit evil and wrong would rejoice, be joyful and exult.
When meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover how the Psalmist must have been watching the prosperity of people who commit wickedness. It seemed like they were rejoicing and jubilant even through they were committing evil and wrong. Sometimes it seems like people who are wicked prosper, and those who attempt to be righteous do not advance and seem to suffer. God's purposes are eternal, and there is nothing that shall escape His judgment. Every word, act, deed, thought, action and attitude shall be judged by Jehovah God, and unless we have a “Savior”, we shall all be doomed. God knew this, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and assure us that He will indeed contend with those who commit wickedness, and they shall not rejoice forever.
Next time the Psalmist asks, “How long shall they utter and speak hard things?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
