In Psalms ninety-seven the Psalmist said, “Confounded be all they that serve graven images, that boast themselves of idols: worship him, all you gods”, and in chapter ninety-seven and verse eight of Psalms the Psalmist said, “Zion heard, and was glad” where we read,
Zion heard, and was glad; and the daughters of Judah rejoiced because of your judgments, O LORD.
The verse begins, “Zion heard, and was glad;” The Psalmist began with the words, “Zion heard” or “Zion whose name means parched place and is another name for Jerusalem especially in the prophetic books listened, perceived, heeded and gave attention”. “and was glad” which means “and existed as rejoicing, exulting, cheered and made gleeful”. The Psalmist said “Zion” or Jerusalem listened to Jehovah God and existed as cheerful and rejoicing.
The verse continues, “and the daughters of Judah rejoiced because of your judgments, O LORD.” The Psalmist added the words, “and the daughters” or “and the female offspring and descendants” “of Judah” which means “belonging to Judah whose name means praised and was the tribe descended from Jacob” “rejoiced” or “was glad, exulted and gleeful” “because of your judgments” which means “since and on account of your, Jehovah God's, justice, ordinance, procedure, litigation and process”, “O LORD” or “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name of the One True God”. The Psalmist said the female offspring within the land of “Judah” were gleeful on account of Jehovah God's ordinance, procedure and litigation.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist said “Zion” or Jerusalem perceived and gave attention to Jehovah God and were rejoicing while the female posterity of “Judah” were gleeful on account of Jehovah God's procedures and litigation. In other words, the people within “Zion” and “Judah” were made glad because God was ruling. God knows all, sees all, hears all and is everywhere present. He reveals Himself through His creation, and He demonstrated His love and commitment to all mankind because He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of everyone. When we yield ourselves to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and bring us into a state of rejoicing and cheer as we enjoy the revelation of His justice in the world.
Next time the Psalmist says, “you, LORD, are high above all the earth”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
