The LORD Reigns - Psalms 99:1

In Psalms ninety-nine and verse one the Psalmist said, “the LORD reigns” where we read,

The LORD reigns; let the people tremble: he sits between the cherubims; let the earth be moved.

The verse begins, The LORD reigns; let the people tremble: The Psalmist began with the words, “the LORD reigns” or “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God is King, ascends to the throne, rules and governs over the world and everyone within it”; “let the people” which means “allow and permit the human beings both male and female to” “tremble” or “quake, rage, quiver, be agitated and excited”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God rules and this should cause everyone to quiver and be excited before Him.

The verse continues,he sits between the cherubims; let the earth be moved. The Psalmist added the words, “he sits between the cherubims” or “he, Jehovah God, abides, is set in place and seated in the midst of the angelic beings known as cherubs”; “let the earth” which means “allow and permit the land, ground, country, territory, region and world” “be moved” or “quake, dangle and shake”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God abides in the midst of the angelic cherubs and the world should shake and quake at His presence.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist declared Jehovah God to be the ruler over the universe, and anyone who lives within it should be exited and quiver at His presence. God dwells in the midst of the angelic beings known as “cherubs”, and the entire world should not only recognize this, but should quake and quiver at the thought of it. This same Almighty God desires to have an intimate personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and to make that possible, He sent Jesus into the world to die for the sins of all mankind. God is omnipotent, and He loves us. When we submit to His Son Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to be among people and angels who quiver with excitement in the presence of Him.

Next time the Psalmist says, “the LORD is great in Zion”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
