Psalms ninety-eight begins with the heading, “A Psalm” which translates, “a melody or poem set to notes”, and in chapter ninety-eight and verse one of Psalms the Psalmist said, “O sing unto the LORD a new song” where we read,
O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he has done marvelous things:
his right hand, and his holy arm, has gotten him the victory.
The verse begins, “O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he has done marvelous things:” The Psalmist began with the words, “O sing” or “O make music with voices” “unto the LORD” which means “to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name of the One True God” “a new song” or “a lyrical and religious ode or tune that is fresh”; “for he has done” which means “because, since and on account that he, Jehovah God, has performed, made and produced” “marvelous things” or “wonderful, great and extraordinary acts and deeds”. The Psalmist instructed his readers and listeners to use their voices to “sing” a fresh “song” to Jehovah God because He has performed, made and produced exceedingly great acts and deeds.
The verse goes on to say, “his right hand, and his holy arm, has gotten him the victory.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “his right hand” or “his, Jehovah God's, right hand of power, might, authority and ability”, “and his holy arm” which means “and his, Jehovah God's, sacred, righteous and apart forearm and shoulder of strength and force”, “has gotten him the victory” or “delivered, saved and liberated him, Jehovah God, toward preservation, salvation and deliverance”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God's “right hand” of power and strength and His sacred and righteous shoulder of force gained Him deliverance and salvation.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist encouraged his readers and listeners to use their voices to make fresh music toward Jehovah God because He preformed wonderful and mighty acts, and His “right hand” and “holy arm” gained Him deliverance and salvation. God wants us to sing unto Him as we realize He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins to save us. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, give us eternal life and show Himself strong and mighty in the circumstances and situations we encounter in this life.
Next time the Psalmist says, “the LORD has made known his salvation”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
