In Psalms ninety-eight the Psalmist said, “Sing unto the LORD with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm”, and in chapter ninety-eight and verse six of Psalms the Psalmist said, “with trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise” where we read,
With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King.
The verse begins, “With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “with trumpets” or “by the use of the quivering sounds of a trumpet instrument” “and sound of cornet” which means “and the voice, cry and lowing noise belonging to a showphar or curved horn” “make a joyful noise” or “and mar by breaking, split the ears, shout and sound an alarm”. The Psalmist instructed his readers and listeners to use the “showphar” and “trumpets” to make a sound of rejoicing unto Jehovah God.
The verse continues, “... before the LORD, the King.” The Psalmist added the words, “before the LORD” or “in front and in the face and countenance of Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “the King” which means “the Royal Ruler”. The Psalmist instructed his readers and listeners to use their “trumpets and sound of the cornet” to “make a joyful noise” in the presence and countenance of the Royal Ruler Jehovah God.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist wanted his listeners and readers to use instruments such as “trumpets” and the “showphar” to produce loud and happy sounds of praise unto Jehovah God. God is the King of the earth, and He rules and reigns over everything. He is worthy of our praise, honor and glory. When we realize He not only created us, gave us breath and sustains our lives, but also made a way for us to live with Him eternally by sending His Son Jesus to die on the cross in our place for our sins, we cannot help but worship Him. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us more than ample reasons to offer Him adoration and thanksgiving with our voices and musical instruments forever and ever.
Next time the Psalmist says, “let the sea roar, and the fullness thereof”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
