In Psalms ninety-four the Psalmist said, “In the multitude of my thoughts within me your comforts delight my soul” and in chapter ninety-four and verse twenty of Psalms the Psalmist asked, “Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with you?” where we read,
Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with you, which frames mischief by a law?
The verse begins, “Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with you, ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “shall the throne” or “will the seat of honor, royal dignity, authority and power” “of iniquity” which means “belonging to engulfing ruin, destruction, calamity, perverseness, naughtiness and mischievousness” “have fellowship with you” or “be united, joined, coupled, in a league and bound together alongside and beside you, people who are wicked and unjust”. The Psalmist questioned whether the royal dignity and authority belonging to people who are destructive and perverse being united and joined to the following people.
The verse continues, “... which frames mischief by a law?” The Psalmist added the words, “which frames mischief” or “who forms, fashions, predetermines and pre-ordains toil, trouble and labor” “by a law” which means “through the use of a statute, ordinance, decree and commandment”? The Psalmist referred to people who form and fashion trouble and labor by the use of an ordinance, decree or commandment.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist wondered whether people who are unjust can claim that Jehovah “God is on their side” when they make rules and laws that permits their wrongs and errors. When people violate God's commandments, they desire to maintain their sin by a making man-made law that justifies their wrongs. This, however, does not change the law and ways of God, and every person will be judged by God's law and not their own. God set the standard, and He knows people violate it. This is sin. Sin means to “miss the mark”, and when we break God's law, we sin against God and are separated from Him. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Changing God's law to accommodate our sinful ways will not save us eternally, and those who are wise will understand that God knows the truth, and He is willing to justify all who humble themselves, repent of their sins and come to Him.
Next time the Psalmist says, “they gather themselves together”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
