Hear My Prayer, O LORD - Psalms 102:1

Psalms one hundred and two begins with the heading, “[[A Prayer of the afflicted, when he is overwhelmed, and pours out his complaint before the LORD.]] which breaks down, “A Prayer” or “a poetic or liturgical oration, intercession, supplication and by implication a hymn “of the afflicted” which means “belonging to the poor, humble, wretched, needy and weak”, “when he is overwhelmed” or “at the time and moment he, the afflicted person whether male or female, exists as turned aside, faint, weak and feeble”, “and pours out his complaint” which means “and spills, sheds, expends and sprawls or gushes out his, the person's, meditation, musing, anxiety and trouble” “before the LORD” or “in front or in the face and countenance of Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, and in chapter one hundred two and verse one of Psalms the Psalmist said, “Hear my prayer, O LORD” where we read,

Hear my prayer, O LORD, and let my cry come unto you.

The verse begins, Hear my prayer, O LORD, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “hear my prayer” or “listen to, obey, pay attention to and perceive by ear my, the Psalmist's, intercession, supplication and by implication a hymn”, “O LORD” which means “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. The Psalmist appealed to Jehovah God to listen to his supplication and intercession.

The verse continues,... and let my cry come unto you. The Psalmist added the words, “and let my cry” or “and allow and permit my, the Psalmist's, hallooing or appeal for help” “come unto you” which means “enter and arise unto you, Jehovah God”. The Psalmist appealed to Jehovah God to allow his pleading to arise to Him.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist appealed to Jehovah God not only to listen to him, but also to allow his entreaty for help to arise unto Him. We can imagine the anguish the Psalmist is going through, and he just wants God to pay attention to him. God loves people, and He desires to have an intimate relationship with every person through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. When we yield ourselves to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and be ready to supply our every need as we “cry out” to Him. (See Philippians 4:19)

Next time the Psalmist says, “Hide not your face from me in the day when I am in trouble”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
