In Psalms ninety-eight the Psalmist said, “Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise”, and in chapter ninety-eight and verse five of Psalms the Psalmist said, “sing unto the LORD with the harp” where we read,
Sing unto the LORD with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm.
The verse begins, “Sing unto the LORD with the harp;” The Psalmist began with the words, “sing unto the LORD” or “make music with voices to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “with the harp” which means “by the use of the lyre or stringed instrument”. The Psalmist instructed his readers and listeners to use their voices to make music toward Jehovah God while employing the use of a stringed instrument such as a lyre or harp.
The verse goes on to say, “with the harp, and the voice of a psalm.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “with the harp” or “by the use of the lyre or stringed instrument”, “and the voice” which means “and the crying, lowing or proclaiming sound” “of a psalm” or “belonging to a musical piece or song to be accompanied by an instrument”. The Psalmist instructed his readers and listeners to use a stringed instrument to make music with their “voices” toward Jehovah God.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist gave instructions in musical worship unto Jehovah God. The people reading and listening to the Psalmist's words were to use their voices accompanied by instruments to cry and sing aloud unto God. God is worthy of our worship and praise, and when we realize that He not only gave us life, breath and the ability to have an intimate personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus, we will freely and gladly offer Him praise and adoration for the same. Jesus came into the world to die on the cross for our sins, and He was raised from the dead three days later. This gives us the opportunity to receive Him as our “Savior and Lord” by humbling ourselves, turning from our sins and receiving Him into our lives. This invitation is to everyone, and those who receive Him shall use their voices and instruments to give Him praise and thanks for all eternity.
Next time the Psalmist says, “with trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
