In Psalms ninety-four the Psalmist said, “The LORD knows the thoughts of man, that they are vanity. Blessed is the man whom you chasten, O LORD, and teach him out of your law” and in chapter ninety-four and verse thirteen of Psalms the Psalmist said, “that you may give him rest from the days of adversity” where we read,
That you may give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit be dug for the wicked.
The verse begins, “That you may give him rest from the days of adversity, ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “that you may give him rest” or “so you, Jehovah God, might grant, bestow and impart to him, the person whether male or female who is made O how happy from God's law and instruction, quietness, tranquility, pacification and allay” “from the days” which means “separate and apart from the times or periods” “of adversity” or “that exist as noisome, grievous, sad, ill-favored and harmful”. The Psalmist said when Jehovah God corrects and instructs people within His law, they will live their lives in quietness and tranquility separate and apart from times that are noisome and grievous.
The verse continues, “... until the pit be dug for the wicked.” The Psalmist added the words, “until the pit be dug” or “till and up to the time the destruction, grave and corruption is excavated, plotted and opened” “for the wicked” which means “on behalf of people who are criminal, guilty of sin and hostile to God”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God would give the people rest who are corrected by Him and instructed in His law until the time when the grave is excavated for people who are guilty of sin and hostile to God.
When think through the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist said Jehovah God would provide calmness and tranquility from harmful and grievous days to the people who have been disciplined and instructed in His law. This would continue until the time when the criminal and sinful people have their graves opened for them. Let there be no doubt, God will judge the unrighteous, and everyone falls into that category. (See Romans 3:23) This is why He sent Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and rescue us from the judgment to come. God loves us, and He will contend with the wicked by opening their grave and allowing them to walk that path.
Next time the Psalmist says, “the LORD will not cast off his people”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
